# How refunds affect my settlements

When you issue a refund for an online sale, the amount refunded to the buyer is deducted from your event's **available balance**.

For this reason, refunds directly affect the amount you have available to request in future settlements.

## You need an available balance to issue a refund

To use the **Refund the money** option, the event must have a **sufficient balance** to cover the amount to be refunded.

If you have already requested settlements and withdrawn a significant portion of the money generated from sales, you may not have enough balance available to issue new refunds.

> **Important:** before requesting a settlement, we recommend taking into account any refunds you may need to issue later.

## What happens if I issue a refund before requesting a settlement?

If you issue the refund while you still have an available balance, the refunded amount will be deducted from that balance.

For example, if you have **€10,000 available for settlement** and issue a **€500 refund**, the balance available for future settlements will be reduced accordingly.

## What happens if I have already received a settlement?

Money that has already been transferred to your bank account is not automatically returned to go&dance.

Therefore, if you need to issue refunds after receiving a settlement, you must have a sufficient balance from other event sales.

If there is not enough balance available, **you will not be able to refund the money through the platform**.

## Canceling a ticket is not the same as refunding it

Remember that there is a difference between **refunding the money** and **canceling a ticket**:

- **Refund the money** refunds the buyer and affects the event's available balance.
- **Cancel tickets** invalidates the tickets so they can no longer be used, but **does not refund the buyer** and therefore does not generate a refund to be deducted from the settlement.

## Plan your settlements with potential refunds in mind

Although you can request settlements during the sales period, it is advisable to keep some balance available if there is a possibility that you may need to issue refunds.

> **Recommendation:** avoid settling your entire available balance if you expect that you may need to issue refunds. Keeping a balance in the event will allow you to manage online refunds directly through go&dance when necessary.

Remember that refunds for online sales can only be issued under the conditions allowed by the platform, including the **maximum period of 180 days from the purchase date**.
